The nicest thing about hugging is you can't give one without getting one in return! A hug is the simplest way of saying, 'yes, I care' :)
A good hug strengthens bonds, nurtures positivity, builds trust, connects people better, gives a sense of protection, safety and has various other health benefits. So if an apple a day keeps the doctor away, then a hug a day keeps the blues away! :)
Sometimes when you don't have words to express something very emotional to you, a hug can do the talking, just hug the person and let your thoughts be conveyed through a nice embrace.
There are people who paste an artificial smile on their face and hug just for the sake of it, such hugs are worthless. Never fake emotions, only express out what you genuinely feel at heart, let your face be the true mirror of your mind.
A hug that comes straight from the heart has a healing power in it, such hugs lead to release of hormones like serotonin which brings well being and happiness to the central nervous system and oxytocin(commonly known as the cuddle hormone) reduces stress, nervousness, anxiety, lowers blood pressure and improves memory.
Hugging drives away insecurity and boosts self esteem as it is like an energy exchange between two souls and leaves behind a warm snugly feeling :) There is always a need and want for a hug in the human mind but it is not exposed unless you come across a loved one whom you are meeting after a gap.
So, how many hugs are considered enough per day? Well, a family therapist gave an interesting answer to that question, "We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth", her name is Virginia Satir, she is an American author and psychotherapist.
Be welcoming when you are ready to hug, else it is better to offer a hand shake instead. Let hugs be true and hug as you really mean it, only then will both the people, the giver and receiver can get the happiness out of it :)
Here is a warm friendly hug, embrace it and generously spread your joy by hugging your family, friends and loved ones :)
Take care, have a lovely day :)

Big HUGS to you Sai!
We Indians, esp. South Indians are always reluctant to express our love by touching other people. Even while doing pranams, we never touch people's feet. It is different in someother parts of India.
My doddamma (Mother's sister) always insisted to touch at least people's hands while greeting. Hugging is better, she said. She was doing that and others in our family have started following it, even I! It feels good, really!
You have written about it very nicely, Sai!
BIG HUGS back to you Sandhyaji!! :)
Yes, we tend to hug only our direct family but offer just pranams to all others. But I think touch of a loved one has a healing effect either in joy or in sorrow.
Thanks to your doddamma :) for adding hugs into family meetings, hugging a person you trust has a very positive effect because you won't be worried as you know the person hugs with the right intention to drawn you near to them and not for the sake of it :)
Thank you very much for sharing your opinion through your lovely comment :)
Cheers, Sai :)
Very true. A hug has something which is not found in any other form of greeting.
nice
there is a girl in UK or America who has made a good biz out of this concept. I do not remember her name but she says everyone needs a hug. A hug that signifies care and love..:)
