The Unchained Dog…

I simply ignored the board “Beware of Dog” hung outside as I swiftly opened the gate and stepped in. When I turned back to close the gate, there was a bark, a fierce bark, loud enough to bring a chill down my spine and frightening enough to triple my heart beat.

His eyes resembled those of an angry wolf, his teeth were sharp, eager to dig into my flesh and his huge tongue was as red as a tiger’s tongue with taste buds waiting to taste my blood.

For a second, I stood like a newly carved out statue as he stared at me like an enraged lion which is ready to pounce on its prey. Droplets of his saliva leaked from his mouth as he felt me like a big bundle of flesh and bones covered with some pieces of cloth.

The barking sound became even louder but I resembled a rock, stayed calm and composed. Here I compliment myself for not raising a panic as I was aware that animals, especially dogs go crazy if they spot nervousness in a stranger.

It was a German shepherd (also called as Alsatian), a member of the breed which has great reputation for aggression. This breed of highly active dogs is responsible for more random bites than any other breed.

So, what was the end result for all the pains I took to stand still; within a few seconds he stopped barking, licked both my feet and just stepped aside giving me way to go inside the house.

Well buddy, when was the last time you met an unchained dog and how did you manage to win the situation?

I am very scared of dogs,i just can't imagine myself to be friendly with dogs.

If i was in ur place,i would have shouted and cried like i am mad.

We are a family of dog lovers. Few years ago my daughter was bitten by a German Shepherd while going to school. She had to take all the mandatory shots. Personally, I haven't faced any problems from any dogs. But the sight of a ferocious unchained dog would give me some uncomfortable moments I am sure.

Very refreshing and well-written piece. All is well that ends well.

These lines look as if you are still in front of the dog! Very well written Sai. You notice very small details too.

I love dogs and have never come across one which scared me. I love labrador dogs but am not fond of doberman!

With this experience, I think you will not be scared of them hereafter!!

@Varunavi: If you shout and cry the dog would definitely pounce on you. Thanks for the compliment :)

@Aparna: If I didn't act like an image of stone, I would have faced the same fate like your daughter and would been left with a painful dog bite and a tale to tell all through my life :)

@Onkar: Thanks for the nice idiom, yes, it is so true that "All's well that ends well" :)

@Sandhya: Well, It was altogether a nice experience for me and yes, as you rightly said, I'll not be scared of them hereafter :)
