My Lonely Life…

Here is my poem on loneliness - it’s a collection of my thoughts on lonely life…

My Lonely Life...

Early in my childhood
A thorn pierced my heart
As I grew, it tore deeper
With age, I realized it was

The thorn of loneliness…

In joy I laugh, in pain I cry
Among crowd and at party
I walk, I talk, I sit and I move
With my family, with friends

But always feel I’m alone…

Tears, wrung from my heart
Soak through my soul which
Got devoured by loneliness
The day I die, will I have to

Carry my own corpse, alone?

The Unchained Dog…

I simply ignored the board “Beware of Dog” hung outside as I swiftly opened the gate and stepped in. When I turned back to close the gate, there was a bark, a fierce bark, loud enough to bring a chill down my spine and frightening enough to triple my heart beat.

His eyes resembled those of an angry wolf, his teeth were sharp, eager to dig into my flesh and his huge tongue was as red as a tiger’s tongue with taste buds waiting to taste my blood.

For a second, I stood like a newly carved out statue as he stared at me like an enraged lion which is ready to pounce on its prey. Droplets of his saliva leaked from his mouth as he felt me like a big bundle of flesh and bones covered with some pieces of cloth.

The barking sound became even louder but I resembled a rock, stayed calm and composed. Here I compliment myself for not raising a panic as I was aware that animals, especially dogs go crazy if they spot nervousness in a stranger.

It was a German shepherd (also called as Alsatian), a member of the breed which has great reputation for aggression. This breed of highly active dogs is responsible for more random bites than any other breed.

So, what was the end result for all the pains I took to stand still; within a few seconds he stopped barking, licked both my feet and just stepped aside giving me way to go inside the house.

Well buddy, when was the last time you met an unchained dog and how did you manage to win the situation?

The Funny Question…

Right after I graduated a few years ago, I had been to Bangalore city to attend a couple of interviews. And in one of the interviews, during the personal round, I was asked a funny question.

As I stepped into the room, the young HR manager welcomed with a big smile on his face. After a few questions on my bio data, then came the big question, “Tell me one simple and easy way to kill time?”. The question left me surprised. He continued, “I give you exactly one minute to think and don’t give regular answers, I expect an ‘out of the box’ kind of answer from you”.

In that one minute, I thought about a hundred ways and finally spoke out, “Sitting silently near a milestone on a highway, go on eating peanuts and counting the cars and buses which pass by”. He laughed as he heard me give that answer, “Great idea, so what do you do when there is no traffic on the highway?”

I spontaneously sprang with an answer, “Look at the clouds in the sky and forget time”. He laughed again, “Gentleman, your answer impressed me; you can look at the results after two days, good luck”. I left the room after shaking hands with him.

But after two days, my name was missing in the final selection list and I knew the reason - my answers were not up to the mark during the technical round as it was the toughest one I ever faced. But the interview gave me a funny moment to cherish for long…

Dear reader, what would be your answer to the funny question, if you were in my shoes?

Happy Mother’s Day…

Wishing all the readers of Beyond Barriers… a very “Happy Mother’s Day”.

This post carries the very first poem I wrote in my life, “Mother, my Mother”. And the first person to whom I showed it and dedicated it, was my own mother and after reading, she failed to control her emotions that day.

Now today, I take the opportunity on this special occasion to share it with all of you.

Mother, my Mother…

When I was a wandering soul, dear mother,
You offered me the holy gift of birth on this Earth

Those months when I lived in you, dear mother,
You generously shared me your breath and blood.

The day I got introduced to this World, dear mother,
You took me in arms and put me close to your heart

With your first kiss on my tiny forehead, dear mother,
You turned all those curvy fate lines I had into smooth ones

In the garden we sat during the spring season, dear mother,
You showed me how the flower proposes marriage to the butterfly

When the domestic chores demanded your attention, dear mother,
You spent the whole day caring, tickling, laughing and playing with me

While I learnt my first multiplication table at school, dear mother,
You forgot to even comb your hair and pondered about my life, my future

When I lied motionless on the bed with high fever, dear mother,
You skipped your meals and sleep to serve me all along the day and night

Unlike other woman of your age who desire for riches, dear mother,
You always kept your life simple, serene, self-effacing and sacrificing for me

As a stream of blood oozed incessantly out of my first wound, dear mother,
You shed tears ceaselessly while tying the bandage and felt my pain as yours

Now, bless me with the opportunity to worship you, my dear own mother,
I shall collect the purest drops of the morning dew to wash your ever kind feet

As every cell in my body offers prayers and salutations to you, dear mother,
I shall pluck the first bloomed flower of the spring and decorate your holy feet

And finally, If God grants me the biggest wish of my lifetime, dear mother,
I pray that for every birth on this Earth, you are the mother and I am your child
